I stumbled upon GypsyRock's photo's a few weeks ago when we were browsing through hundreds of graphitti wall shots on a late Sunday night. We were putting together the flyer for Flava Fest and needed a sick shot that would fit just right. The design had to go to print by 9 AM and I need at least 4 hours of sleep to function. All we needed was the right photo to sit as the backdrop. Everybody that was documenting graphitti through photography was not too concerned with anything but taking the picture. I was starting to get really pissed off. Around 3 in the morning, I find myself looking through the sickest set of graphitti wall shots I've seen all ...

What I have been looking for in music during the past few months has led me through quite the journey. I was ready to give up on Hip Hop, but was reinvigorated and encouraged to pursue the underground scene by a close friend. Since then, I have never looked back, keeping focus on Hip Hop's future. Underground artists have given me hope for the music I so love and admire. Most appealing is the substance of the artist's content. Real-world issues are tackled and dissected daily. When exactly what's lacking in the music scene is substance, enter Soul Position. Soul Position is the combined effort of rapper Blueprint and DJ RJD2. Their latest effort, Things Go Better with RJ & Al, ...

For the lovers of hip hop music, there are certain elements of the music that attract many to the genre. A great beat, great lyrics, and an underlying relationship between the artist and the song itself. Though many may believe the days of hip hop have been numbered for some time, it is refreshing and comforting to know that hip hop is alive and well in the song "For The Love of Da Game" by the legendary icon DJ Jazzy Jeff (off Magnificient) featuring Pauly Yamz & Baby Blak. Ingredients for this song are as follows... A smooth, jazzy beat provided Jeff, touching and genuine lyrics by Pauly Yamz and Baby Blak, and from a retrospective view, the connection between ...

Music and art are synonymous with each other. Music is an expression of human emotions through song and tune, thus making it a very legitimate and real art form. With this in mind, get ready for a lyrical trip that will open the mind and stimulate every visual neuron within the brain. Behold, the album that gives new meaning to the word "art." Connected by Foreign Exchange is a musical odyssey and the brain child of Phonte (of Little Brother) and Dutch producer Nicolay. What is most amazing about the magical collaboration is the fact that the two never met face-to-face at any time during the making of Connected. In fact, "The Foreign Exchange conceptualized, conceived and completed Connected by means ...

Sometimes the most memorable tracks are the simplest to understand. Everyone on the planet, regardless of race, sex, and culture, can understand the pain and sadness of losing a loved one. However, not everyone can understand the experience of witnessing a loved one die as a victim of cold-blooded murder. To give people some notion of understanding, Murs pours his soul and tears onto the track "Walk Like a Man." Murs is an underground rapper based out of Los Angeles, California representing Definitive Jux Records. As a friend of mine, Andy Kang, put it, "... most of the rappers... try to show how hard or gully they are. Murs kinda rises above all of that. I think it's pretty rare to ...

When any government, or church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, this you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know, the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motive." Robert Heinlein The United States, for all Americans, is the model society. Though it is not perfect, we would rather live here than anywhere else right? And what makes our society so appealing to the masses is our sense of freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to live in a society not governed by a dictator or socialist party. A crucial aspect of freedom is that one has the opportunity to express him/herself in whatever way ...
