Symmetry - Providence’s Dusty Pickup

When people think of Hip Hop, Rhode Island is not the first state that enters the mind. And if it does, Sage Francis is usually the representative of choice. But now another name is added to the list…SymmeTry. Hailing from Providence, RI, SymmeTry is the average man’s wordsmith. He started rhyming in high school where a few heads rapped for fun. Originally pursuing graff writing, SymmeTry soon picked up emceeing and began to develop his style. With support from friends, coupled with his own self-determination, SymmeTry began to get more serious with his craft. His influences span a range of music, including Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, J-Live and Aesop Rock. SymmeTry admits that he is not up on old-school hip-hop (1980s era) as much as he would like, but his love for the culture is still ever present in his lyrics and the passion he puts into each of his songs. With his crew, Poorly Drawn People - a developing indie hip-hop label, SymmeTry has gone on a number of tours. Recently, he hit the road with his producer in Deutschland, and then again in Canada with the likes of Busdriver, Motion Man and Del the Funky Homosapien’s manager, Buku One.

For the past six years, SymmeTry has been honing his lyrical skills, following no style but his own. He does not have a set lyrical agenda when he writes, but rather focuses on quality. Last year he released his first solo project, The Cat Drop Complex, which was more of a compilation album of his works than a full length. Since its out-of-backpack release, 800 copies of this 19-track album have been copped, especially while on tour in places like Deutschland, Canada, Washington, Washington D.C. and Providence. The album ranges from songs dealing with hip hop culture to tracks about everyday life. The follow-up album from SymmeTry is expected to drop this summer. This new 19-track album, entitled The Dusty Pickup, will display a more focused emcee spitting for the love of the music.

As for the future, SymmeTry is currently focused on his next project, with hopes that he can generate enough money to put together a tour outside of the U.S. Though he will be pushing his album independently, he also has intentions of tapping into the online market. However, when it comes down to it, SymmeTry will go as far with his music as the music will take him, and he has accepted that to be his fate. So Providence, stand up, and everyone take notice of the cat SymmeTry dropping the complex fire to burn the world. Pickup the new album this summer and support real hip hop.

The imperial emcee and devout Hip-Hop head Transmute ANS, or Tr. ANS, reps for the state of Connecticut, but chills in the Illadelph for the time being. Not one to divulge much information about himself, this is what should be known. People think he’s nice on the mic, he says different; until he is heard the question is: “is he ill?” or is he what an emcee is supposed to be? Whatever the answer is, Tr. ANS does have too many aliases, multiple personalities to go with them, and too many crews/groups that he is associated with (hence his love for Madlib and MF DOOM). As a Hip-Hop head, Tr. ANS’ mind is that of a Hip-Hop DJ, in that Hip-Hop music is not just rap music, but encompasses every genre that has influenced the culture’s music. Therefore, for Freshout, Transmute handles rap (which is called Hip-Hop on the site), funk, jazz, soul, and reggae (Kool DJ Herc baby! Respect!). Hip-Hop is such a large part of his life that he has dedicated his life to the study and development of Hip-Hop Architecture (the man has a Bachelors of Architecture degree). (It should be noted that Transmute did not make this discipline up, there are others who have dedicated time to this study.) Also, Transmutist is a music junkie. The man downloads and buys music so much that he make a crackhead look clam next to his dealer. His knowledge of music is fairly good and if he does have a particular that someone is looking for (Hip-Hop of course), he will look for it. As a Fresh Out writer, Transmute puts his “stamp of approval on every artist that he writes about, so check out his posts and the artists that he is listening to, hit him up if you want and remember to spell the man’s name right— capital “T”, lower case “r”, “dot”, “space”, capital “A”, capital “N”, capital “S”; the hardest name to spell in Hip-Hop— Tr. ANS. Casper.
